The very first dessert I learned to make was a strawberry cake. I whisked it together for my mother in my Granny’s kitchen during our summer cooking class and it turned out…..terribly! I couldn’t understand how I followed every step and it still came out so dense (stiff). I resolved to letting my Granny stick with cake baking from then on.

One day, when I was much older, I whipped up the courage to try again. I started by making a Butter Pecan Cake that changed the trajectory of my cake baking confidence in the kitchen.

Now my hands carry on the traditions of my mother, grandmother, great grandmother and so on. As my family has grown, I also have the privilege of carrying on rich recipes from my husbands grandmother; a privilege I don’t take lightly.
